Southbound<\/h1>\n

For their first solo exhibition in Austria, the artist duo is looking south. For Rojo & Kre\u00df, north and south are no longer just cardinal directions, but rather represent the two ends of a supply chain.<\/p>\n

Rojo & Kre\u00df create abstract sculptures, representations of superfruits that, thanks to their appearance, want to reveal some absurdities. Cylinders and other regular shapes, with smooth surfaces like polished resin \u2013 reference how nutrition is replaced by pharmacology. The fruit as a pill to optimize the human body, as a catalyst of new abilities that are administered.<\/p>\n

The best fruits come from the south? Even if there is criticism in the artistic approach to this question, there seems to be a little truth in its affirmation – such \u201csuperfruits\u201d have already been exhibited in Chile and are now conquering the south of Austria.<\/p>\n

The artist duo<\/h3>\n

Esperanza Rojo Bravo (*1989, Chile) and Lennart Kre\u00df from (*1995, Germany) together form the artist duo Rojo & Kre\u00df. They have been working exclusively in this collaboration since 2017.<\/p>\n

The duo’s name combines two surnames from different cultures. It therefore evokes names of old trading companies of the 19th century – an expansive period that, as a result of the advances of the second industrial revolution, enabled the exploration and exploitation of remote geographical areas. The preoccupation with the material and cultural use of natural spaces and their design is also a recurring motif in the work of Rojo & Kre\u00df.<\/p>\n
